I offer a variety of eBook conversion services for authors and publishers of Kindle and Mobipocket eBooks. The three main services I offer are complete eBook formatting, hourly code cleanup, and photos of Kindle books on the device. I also offer consultations and would be happy to answer any questions you have about the formatting process.
Complete eBook Formatting
This “turnkey” service is designed for people who want to have someone else convert their book from beginning to end. Since each project is different, the process of development will vary, as will the time it takes to complete the project. I can convert your book into the Kindle/Mobipocket format from any of a variety of standard formats:
| Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, and other word processing formats | |
| Adobe PDF | |
| Adobe InDesign | |
| HTML and text | |
| Hard copy |
When you contract my services I will:
- Look over your content and determine what will need to be done to convert it into the Kindle format.
- Discuss any issues I foresee in the project and get your input on how you want the book to look.
- Provide you with a written estimate of the work to be done before the project begins.
- Convert the book within a reasonable time frame.
- Provide you with the finished book and all related files, ready to be uploaded to the DTP and published.
The publishing process is your responsibility (that is how you get your royalty from Amazon). However, the DTP site provides good explanations of the publishing process.
I charge US$40 per hour for Kindle conversions, billed in 1/2 hour increments. The average time required for the project will vary based on the original format, the size of the book, and the complexity of the content. In general, a 100-300 page Fiction book converted from Word or PDF will require about 1-3 hours, and a 100-300 page Non-Fiction book converted from PDF will require about 3-6 hours. If your book has an index, it can be integrated into the book, with the "page numbers" linked back to the text for easy reference. Because of the work involved in formatting an index, I charge a set rate of $50 for them.
Hourly Code Cleanup
If you are interested in formatting the book yourself but just need some help getting the initial code clean-up done, I can work on the file for a set amount of time, cleaning up the code and making it easier for you to do your formatting and prep work. Even one hour of cleanup can make a world of difference.
As with my complete formatting services, I charge US$40 per hour for hourly cleanup, billed in 1/2 hour increments.
Kindle Book Photos
Have a book ready to go but no Kindle to preview it on? I can take photos or screenshots of pages from your book on my Kindle and send them to you, giving you a good idea of what looks good and what does not. I charge $1 per photo for this service with a minimum of $5 (5 photos). I can limit my photos to the pages you are most concerned about or take a sampling from the book, looking for places that I think could use some work.
Consultations
If you have already started the conversion process but have run into a brick wall, I would be more than happy to help. All questions and issues, from small to large, can be answered. I usually don't charge for these consultations, but donations are always accepted. Feel free to contact me any time.
Payments
I accept checks (business or personal), cashier's checks, and money orders. I also accept PayPal payments, but only from verified accounts attached to a bank account. NO credit cards can be accepted at this time.

Joshua Tallent delivered impeccable, accurate, beautifully designed Kindle and Mobipocket formatting for our eBook of the Messiah Interviews. He did this with ease and in quick turnaround time, all very pleasantly and with kindness and class. He was further very helpful in the Mobipocket submission, which is relatively difficult compared to Kindle. He took whatever time was necessary to guide me step by step through the submission process. I recommend him without reservation.
